Course Overview

General Course Information

This syllabus outlines the structure and requirements for Human Biology II, a college-level Anatomy & Physiology course. The course covers the structure and function of the human body, focusing on vertebrate groups, and includes both theoretical and laboratory components. Students will learn to identify anatomical structures and understand physiological mechanisms through lectures, laboratory exercises, and practical exams.

  • Course Code: BIOL 3781

  • Credits: 3 credits

  • Class Sessions: Mon & Wed 8:30-9:50 AM (Lecture), Tue 10:00-11:50 AM (Lab)

  • Location: NCN-237, NCN-103, NCN-101

Course Materials

Required Texts and Resources

  • Textbook: Marieb, E.N. & Hoehn, K. (2021) Human Anatomy & Physiology, 12th Edition.

  • Lab Manual: Marieb, E.N. & Smith, L.A. Human Anatomy & Physiology Laboratory Manual.

  • Atlas: Gartner, L.P. & Hiatt, J.L. Color Atlas of Histology, 6th Edition.

Laboratory Requirements

Lab Materials and Safety

Students are required to use microscopes, dissection kits, and follow safety protocols during laboratory sessions. Proper attire and safety equipment are mandatory.

  • Each student will be assigned a microscope.

  • Dissection kits must include forceps, scissors, scalpel, and appropriate blades.

  • Lab coats and gloves are required for all dissections.

  • Red tissue cans are provided for disposal of biological material.

  • Safety goggles are recommended.

Grading and Assessment

Exam Structure and Distribution

Assessment consists of four main exams, laboratory practicals, and quizzes. Exams include both written and practical components, covering lecture and laboratory material.
