Course Description

This College Algebra course covers a broad range of foundational algebraic topics, including inequalities, functions, linear and quadratic equations, circles and their graphs, rational, radical, and higher-order equations, applications, polynomial and rational functions, logarithmic and exponential functions, and systems of equations. The course includes a lab component and awards four semester hours of credit.

  • Instructions for activating MyLab and an introduction to MyLab are provided in the Orientation module

  • Optional: Pearson app available for tablets

Technology Requirements

  • Canvas should be used on the current major release of Chrome or Firefox

  • Recommended minimum internet speed: 1.5Mbps

  • Lab assignments may require submitting PDFs; access to a printer and scanner or digital device is recommended

  • Printing services are available in public libraries if needed

Calculator Policy

  • TI-30XIIS or TI-30XIIB calculator required for proctored exams

  • Calculators on phones, tablets, or smartwatches are prohibited during proctored exams

Proctored Testing

  • Proctored exams are required for certain assignments and the final exam

  • ICC provides testing sites free-of-charge at Fulton and Tupelo campuses

  • Remote proctoring available for out-of-state students and those with documented emergencies

Course Policies

Attendance

  • Attendance is based on completion of module quizzes and exams by the due date

  • Homework, lab assignments, and the midterm exam are counted in the course average but do not count toward attendance

  • Quizzes and exams not completed by the deadline result in an absence

  • Absence due to missing the original due date may be dropped from the class

Lab Component

  • Lab assignments help manage time and improve success in the course

  • Lab assignments must be submitted before the module due date

  • Lab assignments for Module 6 and Module 12 may be reviewed in a live Zoom session

  • Lab assignments do not count toward attendance

Zoom Classroom Conduct

  • Students must be present and remain present for the entire session

  • Students must have a stable internet connection and video on

  • Students must be able to communicate with the instructor and participate

  • Follow all college policies for classroom behavior

Make-up Policy

  • Lab assignments and exam review quizzes may not be submitted late

  • Homework and module quizzes may be submitted late with a 30% late penalty

  • Midterm exam may be taken up to one week late with a 10% penalty

  • Final exam may not be taken late except in cases of emergency

Re-Doing Assignments

  • Homework problems may be re-worked any number of times before the due date

  • Module quizzes may be taken twice before the deadline

  • Provide a comprehensive syllabus and course calendar

  • Display all due dates for readings, tests, and papers

  • Grade or respond to all tests and papers within a week of the due date

  • Inform students of current grade and relative class standing upon request

  • Respond to emails and answer all appropriate questions

  • Behave in a professional manner, respecting students as individuals

Student Responsibilities

  • Behave professionally in class and in electronic communications

  • Pay attention to the course calendar and prepare for exams
