L11) Enzyme Inhibitions

Control buttons has been changed to "navigation" mode.
1/4
  • Competitive inhibition

    Inhibitor = molecule

    • Molecule that resembles the substrate

      • Competes for the same biding site on the enzyme.

    • Vmax = Unchanged; Km increased

  • Noncompetitive

    Structure of Inhibitor does NOT resemble the substrate --> binds to a different site on the enzyme

    • Vmax = Lowered; Km unchanged

  • Uncompetitive

    structure of inhibitor does NOT resemble the substrate --> binds to the enzyme-substrate complex NOT the active site

    • the active site contains the substrate, therefore the inhibitor is NOT part of the active site directly

    • Vmax = Lowered; Km lowered -->(same ratio)

  • Irreversible

    Covalent modification of enzyme rendering it is inactive
