Multiply numerator and denominator by the conjugate of the denominator: (c−di)(c − di), FOIL both the numerator and the denominator, replace any i2i^2 by −1−1, simplify to combine like terms and separate into real and imaginary parts, then reduce fractions to the lowest terms if possible
Add the conjugate of the numerator to the denominator, then take the square root of both the numerator and the denominator to eliminate the imaginary part before simplifying, because the conjugate will simplify the addition rather than the multiplication
