Q: Which equation best represents the calculation of total force ($$F_{total}) $$resisted by dense regular connective tissue, given the force per fiber ($$F_{fiber}) $$and the number of fibers ($$n$$)?

$$F_{total} = F_{fiber} \times n$$

Question 1

Which of the following is a common characteristic of all connective tissues?

Accepted Answer

They are derived from mesoderm and have cells embedded in an extracellular matrix.

Question 2

Which connective tissue type is most responsible for transporting substances throughout the body?

Accepted Answer

Blood

Question 3

A patient suffers a sports injury to their knee cartilage. Why does this injury heal slowly?

Accepted Answer

Chondrocytes in cartilage lose their ability to divide with age and cartilage is avascular.

Question 4

Which structural element of connective tissue is primarily responsible for its ability to withstand tension and bear weight?

Accepted Answer

Collagen fibers in the extracellular matrix

Question 5

Which connective tissue type is avascular and receives nutrients from surrounding dense irregular connective tissue?

Accepted Answer

Cartilage

Question 6

Which of the following best describes the function of adipose tissue?

Accepted Answer

Providing structural support and cushioning

Question 7

Which connective tissue type is most likely to calcify or ossify with age, leading to cell death?

Accepted Answer

Cartilage

Question 8

Which equation best represents the relationship between the volume of extracellular matrix ($$V_{ECM}$$), the total tissue volume ($$V_{T}$$), and the cell volume ($$V_{C}) in $$connective tissue?

Accepted Answer

$$V_{ECM} = V_{T} - V_{C}$$

Question 9

Which connective tissue type is best suited for resisting multidirectional tension forces?

Accepted Answer

Dense irregular connective tissue

Question 10

A patient with a genetic defect in collagen synthesis would most likely experience problems in which tissue function?

Accepted Answer

Binding and support

Question 11

Which connective tissue class is primarily responsible for storing reserve fuel in the form of lipids?

Accepted Answer

Adipose tissue

Question 12

Which of the following is NOT a function of connective tissue?

Accepted Answer

Secretion of digestive enzymes

Question 13

Which connective tissue type contains chondrocytes in lacunae and is composed of a matrix that is 80% water?

Accepted Answer

Cartilage

Question 14

Which of the following best explains why bone heals faster than cartilage after injury?

Accepted Answer

Bone is highly vascularized, providing nutrients for repair, while cartilage is avascular.

Question 15

Which connective tissue type is found underlying epithelia and surrounding capillaries, providing support and nutrients?

Accepted Answer

Areolar connective tissue

Question 16

Which of the following is a major function of blood as a connective tissue?

Accepted Answer

Transporting oxygen, nutrients, and waste products

Question 17

Which connective tissue type is most likely to be found in tendons and ligaments, providing strong attachment in one direction?

Accepted Answer

Dense regular connective tissue

Question 18

Which of the following best describes the role of proteoglycans in cartilage?

Accepted Answer

They attract water, contributing to cartilage's resilience and flexibility.

Question 19

Which connective tissue type is most likely to be affected in a patient with osteoporosis?

Accepted Answer

Bone

Question 20

Which equation best represents the calculation of total force ($$F_{total}) $$resisted by dense regular connective tissue, given the force per fiber ($$F_{fiber}) $$and the number of fibers ($$n$$)?

Accepted Answer

$$F_{total} = F_{fiber} imes n$$
