Understand that meiosis is a type of cell division that reduces the chromosome number by half, resulting in the production of gametes or spores.
Recall that meiosis consists of two consecutive divisions: meiosis I and meiosis II.
In meiosis I, homologous chromosomes are separated into two different cells, reducing the chromosome number by half.
In meiosis II, the sister chromatids are separated, similar to mitosis, resulting in four genetically distinct haploid cells.
Conclude that the process of meiosis results in the production of four daughter cells, each with half the chromosome number of the original cell.
