Accepted Answer

1. Recognize a question, 2. Make an educated guess (hypothesis), 3. Predict consequences, 4. Perform experiments, 5. Formulate the simplest general rule

Question 2

A scientist observes an unexpected result in a chemical reaction. According to the scientific method, what should be their next step?

Accepted Answer

Make an educated guess (hypothesis) that might resolve the puzzle

Question 3

Which of the following best describes a scientific theory?

Accepted Answer

A synthesis of a large body of information that encompasses well-tested and verified hypotheses about certain aspects of the natural world

Question 4

What distinguishes a natural law from a theory?

Accepted Answer

A natural law is a general hypothesis or statement about the relationship of natural quantities that has been tested over and over again and has not been contradicted

Question 5

Which of the following is an example of pseudoscience?

Accepted Answer

A claim that ignores evidence and is not testable or falsifiable

Question 6

Why is it important for scientific claims to be falsifiable?

Accepted Answer

It ensures that claims can be tested and potentially proven wrong, which is essential for scientific progress

Accepted Answer

Test the claim through repeated experiments and review the body of scientific evidence

Question 11

Which of the following statements about hypotheses is correct?

Accepted Answer

A hypothesis is an educated guess that can be tested by experiment

Question 12

If a scientist's prediction does not match the experimental results, what should they do next according to the scientific method?

Accepted Answer

Revise the hypothesis and test new predictions

Question 13

Which of the following best describes the role of skepticism in science?

Accepted Answer

To encourage critical thinking and require evidence before accepting claims
