Thalamus

Question 10

The limbic system is primarily involved in which of the following functions?

Accepted Answer

Controlling emotion, learning, memory, pleasure, and self-preservation

Question 11

Which of the following best describes neuroplasticity?

Accepted Answer

The ability of the brain to change by adding new neurons, forming new connections, and reorganizing information-processing areas over the lifespan.

Question 12

Which technique would a researcher use to measure electrical activity in the brain?

Accepted Answer

Electroencephalogram (EEG)

Question 13

Accepted Answer

Increased heart rate and preparation for 'fight or flight'

Question 16

Which of the following best describes the function of the pituitary gland in the endocrine system?

Accepted Answer

It releases hormones that control other glands in the body.

Question 17

A person is unable to process visual information correctly. Which lobe of the cerebral cortex is most likely damaged?

Accepted Answer

Occipital lobe

Question 18

Which of the following equations best represents the change in membrane potential during an action potential?

Accepted Answer

$$\Delta V = V_{peak} - V_{rest}$$

Question 19

Which scenario best illustrates the concept of mirror neurons?

Accepted Answer

A person feels pain when they see someone else get hurt.

Question 20
