Why does DNA polymerase synthesize DNA in the 5' to 3' direction?

The 5' end is the starting point for replication.

The 5' end is chemically inert.

The 3' end provides the necessary chemical environment for nucleotide addition.

DNA polymerase can only bind to the 5' end.
