Course Structure and Requirements
Lecture and Laboratory
Lectures: Focus on problem-solving strategies and conceptual understanding. Attendance is tracked via "exit tickets."
Laboratory: Required for all students. Provides hands-on experience with physical concepts. Passing the lab is mandatory for passing the course.
Assignments and Grading
Participation: 5% (exit tickets)
Pre-Lecture Assignments: 5% (weekly, due before class)
Homework: 20% (administered via Mastering Physics)
Laboratory: 20%
Unit Exams: 30% (three exams, 10% each)
Final Exam: 20%
Note: The lowest grade in pre-lecture and homework categories will be dropped.
Study Suggestions
Preview material before lectures
Take handwritten notes during class
Ask questions when confused
Review and edit notes after class
Work through homework problems independently
Utilize Dynamic Study Modules in Pearson
Do not procrastinate
Course Policies
Attendance and Participation
Active participation is expected
Exit tickets are used to assess understanding
Students should spend approximately six hours per week outside of lectures on course work
Academic Integrity and Generative AI
All submitted work must reflect students' own understanding
Use of Generative AI is permitted for practice problems, but not for exams
Violations of academic integrity will be reported
Accessibility and Accommodations
Students eligible for accommodations should contact the Student Access Office
Barriers to success should be discussed with the instructor for fair solutions
