Accepted Answer

Facilitating movement of the limbs

Question 4

Accepted Answer

It articulates with all other cranial bones

Question 7

Which of the following best describes a fissure as a bone marking?

Accepted Answer

A narrow slit between adjacent parts of bones through which blood vessels or nerves pass; for example, the superior orbital fissure of the sphenoid bone.

Question 8

Which of the following statements about the vertebral column is correct?

Accepted Answer

It consists of 7 cervical, 12 thoracic, 5 lumbar, 1 sacrum (5 fused), and 1 coccyx (4 fused) vertebrae.

Question 9

Accepted Answer

C1 (atlas) and C2 (axis)

Question 10

A patient presents with a spinal curvature that is convex posteriorly in the thoracic region and concave posteriorly in the lumbar region. Which normal spinal curves are being described?

Accepted Answer

Thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis

Question 11

Which of the following best describes the difference between true ribs, false ribs, and floating ribs?

Accepted Answer

True ribs attach directly to the sternum via costal cartilage; false ribs attach indirectly or not at all; floating ribs do not attach to the sternum.

Question 12

Question 13

Which of the following surface markings is correctly matched with its function?

Accepted Answer

Foramen: opening through which blood vessels, nerves, or ligaments pass

Question 14

Clavicles and the first two pairs of ribs

Question 15

Which of the following bones is the deepest bone in the skull?

Accepted Answer

Ethmoid

Question 16

A patient has a herniated disc between the L4 and L5 vertebrae. Which region of the vertebral column is affected, and what is a distinguishing feature of vertebrae in this region?

Accepted Answer

Lumbar region; vertebrae have large, kidney-shaped bodies and short, thick spinous processes.

Question 17

Accepted Answer

Sesamoid bone, such as the patella

Question 18

Which of the following best explains why the skull is considered the most complex bony structure in the body?

Accepted Answer

It is composed of multiple bones with intricate articulations, houses special sense organs, and protects the brain.

Question 19
