Question 1

Which of the following best describes the Stroop Effect?

Accepted Answer

It is a phenomenon where naming the color of the ink is slowed by the presence of conflicting color words.

Question 2

In the Stroop task, why is it difficult to name the ink color when the word spells a different color?

Accepted Answer

Because reading is an automatic process that interferes with the controlled process of color naming.

Question 3

Which of the following is an example of a pattern recognition task humans routinely perform?

Accepted Answer

Recognizing faces in different lighting conditions.

Question 4

Apperceptive Agnosia provides insight into object perception by showing that:

Accepted Answer

Object recognition can fail even when basic visual information is intact.

Question 5

How does context influence object recognition?

Accepted Answer

The surrounding environment helps predict and identify objects before fine details are processed.

Question 6

Which theory of perception states that sensory data, knowledge, and higher-level cognitive processes are all used to perceive objects?

Accepted Answer

Top Down (Constructive) Perception

Question 7

According to Bottom Up (Direct) Perception, how do we perceive objects?

Accepted Answer

By analyzing the individual pieces of the object to understand the whole.

Question 8

Gestalt Theory is best summarized by which statement?

Accepted Answer

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

Question 9

What is a canonic perspective in object recognition?

Accepted Answer

The most typical or 'best' image of an object recognized by most people.

Question 10

In the Palmer, Rosch, and Chase (1981) study, what was the main finding regarding object identification?

Accepted Answer

Objects shown from a canonic perspective were identified more quickly.

Question 11

Which of the following is a limitation of Template Matching Theory?

Accepted Answer

It is inflexible and does not account for objects in different orientations.

Question 12

Geon Theory, proposed by Biederman, suggests that object recognition is based on:

Accepted Answer

Combining geometric ions (geons) to form objects.

Question 13

If there are 24 distinct geons, how many 3-feature figures can be created according to Geon Theory?

Accepted Answer

1.4 billion

Question 14

Recognition by Components (RBC) is most closely associated with which theory?

Accepted Answer

Geon Theory

Question 15

Prototype Matching Theory differs from Template Matching Theory in that:

Accepted Answer

It allows for recognition of objects even if they are not in the exact same perspective or orientation.

Question 16

The Central Tendency Model in Prototype Matching suggests that:

Accepted Answer

Recognition is based on the average of many different features.

Question 17

The Attribute Frequency Model in Prototype Matching proposes that:

Accepted Answer

Recognition is based on the most frequently encountered perception of an object.

Question 18

A person is shown a blurry image of a street sign but can still identify it because of the surrounding environment. Which concept best explains this?

Accepted Answer

Contextual influences on object recognition

Question 19

Which of the following equations best represents the number of possible 3-feature figures from 24 distinct geons?

Accepted Answer

$$\binom{24}{3} imes 3! = 1,4	ext{ billion}$$

Question 20
