Definition and Importance

Layers of the Skin

  • Epidermis: Outermost layer; tissue type is keratinized stratified squamous epithelial tissue.

  • Dermis: Middle layer; tissue type is dense irregular connective tissue.

  • Hypodermis (subcutaneous layer): Deepest layer; tissue type is loose adipose connective tissue.
