Anatomical Position: The standard reference position for the body in the study of anatomy. The body stands erect, facing forward, with feet parallel and arms at the sides with palms facing forward.

Directional Terms
Describing Relative Positions
Directional terms are used to explain where one body part is in relation to another.

Posterior (Dorsal): Toward the back of the body.

Frontal (Coronal) Plane: Divides the body into anterior (front) and posterior (back) parts.
Transverse (Horizontal) Plane: Divides the body into superior (upper) and inferior (lower) parts.
