Course Description

Scope and Topics

This course provides an in-depth study and application of polynomial, rational, radical, exponential, and logarithmic functions, as well as systems of equations using matrices. Additional topics may include sequences, series, probability, and conic sections.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will:

  • Demonstrate and apply knowledge of properties of functions, including domain and range, operations, compositions, and inverses.

  • Recognize and apply polynomial, rational, radical, exponential, and logarithmic functions and solve related equations.

  • Apply graphing techniques.

  • Evaluate all roots of higher degree polynomial and rational functions.

  • Recognize, solve, and apply systems of linear equations using matrices.

Attendance and Participation

  • Regular attendance and participation are required for success.

  • Attendance is taken each class period.

Homework and Exams

  • Homework assignments are available online and may be repeated for best score.

  • Late homework is accepted with a penalty until the exam covering that material.

  • Four lowest homework scores are dropped.

  • Unit exams and the final exam are in-class and must be taken on specified dates.

  • Final exam may replace the lowest unit exam score if higher.

Academic Integrity

  • Academic dishonesty is not tolerated. Unauthorized materials or collaboration during exams will result in penalties.

  • Penalized exam scores for dishonesty will not be replaced by the final exam score.
