  • Standing Sound Waves

Waves formed by interference of sound waves reflecting off surfaces, creating nodes and antinodes.
  • Displacement Node

A point where air molecules do not move, resulting in maximum pressure variation.
  • Pressure Antinode

A location of maximum pressure change, coinciding with a displacement node.
  • Displacement Antinode

A point where air molecules oscillate with maximum amplitude, resulting in no pressure change.
  • Pressure Node

A point of no pressure change, coinciding with a displacement antinode.
  • Open Tube

A tube with both ends open, having pressure nodes at each end.
  • Closed Tube

A tube with one end closed, having a pressure antinode at the closed end.
  • Harmonic Frequency

Frequencies at which standing waves resonate, determined by tube length and boundary conditions.
  • Node-Node Scenario

A situation in an open tube where both ends are pressure nodes.
  • Node-Antinode Scenario

A situation in a closed tube where one end is a pressure node and the other is a pressure antinode.
  • Wavelength

The distance between consecutive points of similar phase in a wave, such as nodes or antinodes.
  • Frequency

The number of oscillations per second, determining the pitch of the sound.
  • Odd Integers

Integers like 1, 3, 5, used in equations for node-antinode standing waves.
  • Speed of Sound

The speed at which sound waves travel through a medium, affected by temperature.
  • Hertz

The unit of frequency, equivalent to one cycle per second.
