A polynomial is an algebraic expression where variables have only positive integer exponents and a finite number of terms. Polynomials do not include variables with negative, fractional, or variable exponents, nor do they include variables in denominators.

  • Binomial: A polynomial with two terms.

  • Trinomial: A polynomial with three terms.

Identifying Polynomials

To determine if an expression is a polynomial, check for the following:

  • Leading Coefficient: The coefficient of the term with the highest degree.

  • Constant Term: The term without a variable.
