The 2020 competition

My Twist on a Tale: Everyday Heroes imagery

On International Literacy Day 2020, we launched our My Twist on a Tale writing competition for its second year!

The free competition, which we opened up to 4–19 year olds across the UK, encouraged young people to let their imagination run wild as they wrote a story based on the new theme for 2020, Everyday Heroes.

2020 was an extraordinary year of disruption, and so we decided to update our competition theme to provide children with a positive outlet to highlight the incredible stories that emerged throughout the year. We wanted children to have the opportunity to write their own tales of people who had made a difference to them. And there was nothing to say the hero needed to be a human!

In 2020, for the first time, we created audio versions of each winning story too. We hope you enjoy listening to them!
