Pearson Partners with HOSA - Health Professionals Helping High School Students Enter the World of Healthcare

Earlier this year, Pearson and its Connections Academy partnered with HOSA-Future Health Professionals, a global student-led organization that has promoted career opportunities in the health industry since its inception in 1976. With this new partnership between Pearson and HOSA, students can jumpstart their healthcare careers early in the game.HOSA helps high school students gain soft and technical skills they need to prepare for healthcare jobs while participating in community service and leadership opportunities. Some of the soft skills that HOSA students develop include leadership, communication, and teamwork, which are among the top five skills most requested by employers. Students also get hands-on experience in the healthcare industry and meet like-minded students from around the world.

Why it matters

HOSA is the best way for students to get to know the hundreds of rewarding careers and opportunities within healthcare, and to learn how to prepare for them. With HOSA, high school students won’t just be finding great career options for themselves; they will be filling critical roles that are in high-demand across the country.

Did You Know?

Healthcare jobs are projected to grow 13% from 2021 to 2031—faster than the average for all occupations. That’s nearly two million job openings each year over the course of a decade. Did you know that the BLS estimates there will be about 29,000 job openings every year for nurse practitioners, nurse anesthetists, and nurse midwives alone?

Get Involved

HOSA has over 5,000 active chapters that operate through schools' health science pathways and are integrated into health science courses. Ask your school counselor or health science teacher if your school has a HOSA chapter. If your school doesn’t have one, then reach out to your state's HOSA advisor to see about starting a chapter at your school.
