Chromatin, Chromosome, and Chromatid
Understanding the structure and terminology of genetic material is essential for studying cell division. The genetic material in eukaryotic cells exists in different forms depending on the stage of the cell cycle.
Chromatin: Uncoiled DNA wrapped around proteins called histones. Chromatin is present when the cell is not dividing, allowing access for transcription and replication.
Chromosome: DNA condensed into a transportable form after it has replicated. Each chromosome contains two identical copies called sister chromatids.
Sister Chromatids: Identical copies of DNA attached to each other by the centromere. They are separated during cell division to ensure each daughter cell receives an identical set of genetic material.
Homologous Chromosomes: A pair of chromosomes where the two chromosomes are of the same size and shape and contain the same genes, except for possible differences in alleles. One chromosome in the pair is inherited from each parent.

Binary Fission
Binary fission is the primary method of cell division in prokaryotes, such as bacteria. It is a simpler process than mitosis and involves the following steps:
DNA Replication: The cell replicates its DNA so that there are two identical chromosomes.
Segregation: The two chromosomes separate and move to opposite ends of the cell.
Cytokinesis: A membrane forms across the center of the cell, and the cytoplasm splits apart, resulting in two daughter cells that are genetically identical to each other and to the parent cell.
