Microsporidia

  • Reproduction: Nearly all chytrids produce flagellated spores called zoospores.

Chytridiomycosis in Amphibians

  • Reproduction: Reproduce asexually via nonflagellated spores.

  • Diversity: About 900 known species.

  • Ecological Roles: Live as parasites or commensal symbionts of animals, or as parasites of other fungi or protists.

  • Behavioral Effects: Some species induce behavioral changes in their insect hosts ("zombie-making"), though this is better studied in Ascomycetes.
