Class Format

  • In-person lectures and laboratory sessions.

  • Lab section attendance is required; no exceptions.

  • Lecture: Chemistry: A Molecular Approach (with online version or eBook)

  • Laboratory: Chemistry 110 Lab Manual (available at the bookstore)

  • Scientific Calculator: Required for calculations during exams and labs.

Prerequisites

  • Math 150 (or concurrent enrollment)

  • Algebra will be needed for calculations.

Homework and Quizzes

  • Homework is administered via Mastering Chemistry with due dates posted on Canvas.

  • Quizzes are given in person during lab periods; lowest quiz grade will be dropped.

  • Pre-lab assignments are required at the start of each lab period.

Exams

  • Three midterms and one final exam.

  • No retakes for exams except for documented emergencies.

  • Absence and rescheduling policies are strictly enforced.

Laboratory Expectations

Lab Attire and Safety

  • Long pants, closed-toed shoes, long hair pulled back, long-sleeved shirts/jackets, and lab goggles are required.

Lab Culture

  • Respectful behavior in the lab is mandatory.

  • No eating or drinking in the lab.

  • Keep chemicals a safe distance from your face.

Lab Reports and Pre-Labs

  • One lab report per experiment.

  • Pre-lab assignments must be typed and submitted at the start of the lab period.

Course Policies

Attendance

  • Attendance is required for all lectures and labs.

  • More than three absences from the lab will result in being dropped from the course.

Academic Honesty

  • Cheating and plagiarism are strictly prohibited and will result in disciplinary action.

  • Assignments must be original and properly cited.

Accommodations

  • Students with disabilities should contact the Disabled Students Programs and Services for accommodations.

Class Conduct

  • Disruptive behavior and use of cell phones or other devices are not permitted.

  • Food and drinks are not allowed in the classroom or lab.

Workload Expectations

  • Expect to spend 3-4 hours per week studying and completing homework for each unit.

  • Successful students typically spend at least 15 hours per week on class-related work.
