$$D = \frac{A \cdot \triangle P}{T}$$

Question 1

Which of the following is NOT a primary function of the respiratory system?

Accepted Answer

Regulation of blood glucose levels

Question 2

During external respiration, which process occurs at the alveoli?

Accepted Answer

O$$_2$$ diffuses from the alveolar air into the pulmonary blood

Question 3

Which structure is part of the conducting passageways but NOT involved in gas exchange?

Accepted Answer

Terminal bronchioles

Question 4

What is the main histological cell type forming the walls of alveoli?

Accepted Answer

Simple squamous epithelium (type I cells)

Question 5

Which of the following best describes the function of surfactant secreted by type II alveolar cells?

Accepted Answer

It reduces surface tension in the alveoli, preventing collapse

Question 6

A patient with damage to the sympathetic chain ganglia would most likely experience which respiratory effect?

Accepted Answer

Dilation of bronchioles and inhibition of mucus secretion

Question 7

Which equation best represents the relationship between gas diffusion rate ($$D$$), membrane surface area ($$A$$), membrane thickness ($$T$$), and partial pressure difference ($$	riangle P$$)?

Accepted Answer

$$D = \frac{A \cdot riangle P}{T}$$

Question 8
