Course Structure and Requirements
Course Outcomes
Upon successful completion, students will be able to:
Analyze statistically-based research in popular media and determine its validity.
Apply descriptive and inferential statistics to real-world problems.
Interpret and communicate statistical results using appropriate terminology.
Use technology (MyMathLab, calculators) for statistical analysis.
Evaluate statistical models and understand their limitations.
Prerequisites
College Algebra (MATH 0900, MATH 1120, or equivalent with minimum grade)

Assignments and Exams
In-Class Homework: Weekly problems completed during class (5 points each).
Online Homework: Due Mondays at 11:59 PM via MyMathLab. Three chances to submit each assignment.
Quizzes: Weekly, covering homework material. One attempt per quiz.
Exams: Two major exams (Midterm and Final), each worth 30% of the grade. Taken in MyMathLab and/or in person.
Project: At least one project announced during the semester, worth 10% of the grade.
Mastery Homework: Optional extra credit after exams, up to 5 points per exam.
Calculating Your Grade
Grades are calculated using weighted averages. For example:
Class work: 100% x 0.05 = 5
Homework: 90% x 0.15 = 13.5
Quizzes: 80% x 0.15 = 12
Tests: 85% x 0.60 = 51
Project: 100% x 0.10 = 10
Total: 83.5 points = B
