My experience on the Student Advisory Council – Daichi (Transcript)
Hello, my name is Daichi and I sat on the student advisory board for this textbook.
Now, my experience working with Bruce and the board in general has been a very positive one.
It's been really cool to see different ideas and different concepts be overlapped and be put in by different students into a textbook.
For instance, I talked about media and specifically focused on surveillance studies and new age social media platforms and how we can examine these things sociologically.
And it's been really interesting to see different views and to be able to incorporate my ideas into this textbook.
Now, as to what I gained from this experience, well, other than learning how to publish a textbook, it's been really cool to help inspire a new generation of sociology.
I believe that specifically in media sociology, we need to be a bit more critical of social media platforms and big data to ensure that we're keeping these corporations in check.
So, it's been really interesting to kind of give my two cents into this and hopefully inspire a few new sociologists to pursue this discipline.
