About the speaker
Katherine Sherwood Rawls, PhD, Florida State College at Jacksonville
Dr. Rawls earned both her Bachelor of Science degree and doctoral degree in Microbiology and Cell Science from the University of Florida. She is a Professor of Biological Sciences at Florida State College at Jacksonville where she has taught various Microbiology and Genetics courses since 2011. Dr. Rawls served as the co-PI for the National Science Foundation’s Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math for Peers Organized by Discipline for Success from 2012 – 2020 and as the academic advisor for the Florida State College at Jacksonville Microbiology and Cell Science Club (2014-2016). In 2015, she was awarded the Florida State College at Jacksonville Sister Mary Clare Hughes Endowed Chair Award for Excellence in Teaching within Health Care and Natural Sciences by her peers. She was also awarded the 2015 John & Susanne Rouche Excellence Award by the League for Innovation in the Community College. She has served as a content contributor for both the 1st and 2nd editions of Microbiology: Basic and Clinical Principles by Dr. Lourdes Norman-McKay. She is also the lead author on the Gram Stain, Simple Stain and Smear Preparation, Acid-fast Stain, and Antimicrobial Susceptibility labs within Pearson Interactive Lab within Mastering.
