Pearson Terms of Use

By clicking “I accept”, “I agree”, or by using the Service, you agree to these Terms of Use (“Terms”) with Pearson Education Limited, a registered company in England and Wales whose registered office is at 80 Strand, London, WC2R 0RL, United Kingdom, with company registration number 872828 and VAT Number GB278 5371 21 for the benefit of itself and its group companies (collectively, “we,” “us,” or "Pearson").

These Terms explain how you may access and use the Service, which refers to the Pearson product you are seeking to access and in connection with which these Terms have been provided to you. These Terms (including Annex A - Acceptable Use Policy) are published at https://www.pearson.com/legal-information/dlt-terms-of-use.html (“Terms of Use Link”). Your access to the Service is provided under an agreement between Pearson and the entity that provisions or facilitates your access to the Service (the “Access Provider”), which may be your employer/organisation or a third‑party platform provider (the “Access Agreement”). These Terms supplement the Access Agreement. For more information about the Access Agreement, please contact the Access Provider.

1. Eligibility & Accounts

You may use the Service only if you are (a) authorised by the Access Provider, (b) aged 18 or over, and (c) have a valid entitlement (e.g. licence or assigned access) under the Access Agreement. You must not share your sign‑in credentials and must keep them confidential. You must use multi‑factor authentication where enabled by the Access Provider and comply with the Access Provider’s identity and security policies when using the Service. Use is under time‑limited licences provided under the applicable access arrangement; perpetual licences are not granted.

2. Acceptable Use

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to comply with Pearson’s Acceptable Use Policy in Annex A (“AUP”), which forms part of these Terms. The AUP may be updated as described in Updates to these Terms below. If you do not comply with the AUP, we may suspend or terminate your access immediately.

Without limiting the AUP, you must not use the Service as the sole basis for any automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects on individuals, engage in unlawful surveillance, or use Service outputs in any manner or for any purpose in connection with the development, deployment, or use of artificial intelligence or similar technologies, including without limitation to train, fine-tune, create data sets, develop/modify AI models, mine data/text, or scrape content, unless expressly authorised by Pearson in writing.

The AUP sets out detailed rules, including any usage limits Pearson may apply to maintain Service stability and equitable access.

3. Pilot/Trial Features

From time to time, you may be invited to participate in a pilot or trial, or you may get access to certain features on a pre‑release basis (collectively, “Pilot Features”). Pilot Features are provided for evaluation only, are provided ‘as is’ (no warranties, service levels or service credits apply) and may be changed or withdrawn at any time.

When accessing or using any Pilot Features (including participation in a pilot, trial, or pre‑release access), you must keep the Service and related information confidential. Do not share screenshots, outputs, or other non‑public details, content or material with anyone outside the authorised pilot group or outside your organisation without Pearson’s written permission.

Nothing in this section prevents you or your organisation from making disclosures strictly required to comply with applicable laws or to meet data‑protection transparency/consent obligations. Such disclosures must be limited to the minimum necessary and, where reasonably practicable, made without sharing non‑public technical details, screenshots, or outputs. Disclosures to your personnel inside your organisation for pilot administration and compliance are permitted.

4. AI Output, Reliability & Human Review

The Service uses generative AI to generate outputs, responses, or guidance, which may be inaccurate or incomplete. All outputs are provided for informational purposes only and are not a substitute for professional judgment or human review. You must not use the Service or any Outputs as the sole basis for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects on individuals; appropriate human review and oversight are always required. Do not rely on the Service for medical, legal, immigration, financial, or other professional advice, and ensure compliance with all applicable laws, notices, and consents when using Outputs to support decision-making or otherwise.

5. Your Inputs and Outputs; Rights

You may provide prompts, files, audio, and other content (“Inputs”) and receive results, feedback, responses, or other outputs (“Outputs”). As between you, your organisation, and Pearson, your organisation owns Inputs and Outputs, subject to these Terms and its agreement with Pearson and provided however that those Inputs and Outputs do not include the intellectual property of Pearson. To the extent the Access Provider is different from your organisation, they may have additional terms applicable to you and/or your organisation which govern ownership of Inputs and/or Outputs that do not include the intellectual property of Pearson. For the avoidance of doubt, nothing herein should be considered a waiver of Pearson’s intellectual property rights. You grant Pearson and your organisation the rights necessary to operate, secure, troubleshoot, and improve the Service (for example, to store, process, transmit, use, and display Inputs and Outputs). Pearson may use anonymised and aggregated data generated by or from the Service to operate, secure, and improve the Service (including model quality and service performance).

6. Privacy & Data Handling

Processing of personal data is governed by the Access Agreement (including data protection terms) and the applicable product notices referenced below.

Any requests or enquiries regarding your personal information, including exercising your rights under applicable data protection laws, should be directed to your organisation. Pearson acts as a data processor and will respond to such requests only upon instruction from your organisation.

7. Third‑Party Content, Services & Prerequisites

The Service may interoperate with or be accessed through third‑party services or platforms. You, your organisation and the Access Provider are responsible for obtaining and maintaining any required third‑party software, accounts, licences, configurations, or connectivity. Pearson does not control third‑party services and is not responsible for them, their availability, or their terms. Your use of any third‑party services is subject to their applicable terms and privacy notices.

8. Security

Use the Service in line with your organisation’s security policies, including classification, retention, and access controls. If you suspect misuse of your account or a security incident, notify your organisation’s administrator and follow incident‑response procedures promptly.

9. Changes to the Service

Pearson may update, change, or discontinue the Service (in whole or in part) to maintain quality, security, performance, comply with law, or reflect product updates. Any such changes will be handled in line with the Access Agreement. Where practicable, we will give prior notice of changes that materially reduce functionality.

10. Suspension & Termination

Your access depends on the Access Agreement and valid entitlement (e.g., licence or assigned access) under the Access Agreement. It ends automatically if that agreement ends or your entitlement is removed. Access may also end or change if the platform or service through which you access the Service stops supporting it. Pearson or your organisation may also suspend or terminate your access for breach of these Terms or the AUP, legal compliance, or security reasons, and, where necessary, may do so without prior notice. When access ends, you must stop using the Service and follow your organisation’s instructions for data return or deletion.

11. Feedback & Marketing Use

If you provide feedback, suggestions, or ratings about the Service (“Feedback”), you grant Pearson a non‑exclusive, worldwide, royalty‑free licence to use it to operate, maintain, and improve products and services.

Pearson may also use feedback from you in marketing materials without consent, provided it does not include personal data.

12. Intellectual Property

You do not acquire any ownership rights in or permissions to use the Service or related materials except as expressly stated in these Terms (including the AUP). All content, software, and documentation provided by Pearson remain the exclusive property of Pearson and its licensors. See Section 5 in connection with ownership of Inputs and Outputs.

13. Disclaimers; Liability & Remedies

To the extent permitted by law and unless stated in the Access Agreement, the Service is provided “as is”. For important limitations on AI outputs and required human review, see Section 4.

We will always be responsible to you for: (a) death or personal injury arising as a result of Pearson's negligence; (b) fraud on the part of Pearson; and (c) any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited by applicable law.

Other than as set out above, we are not responsible to you for any damages, losses or costs relating to your use of the Service in a way which is not permitted under these Terms.

You will be responsible to Pearson for any losses suffered as a result of your failure to comply with these Terms.

14. Export, Sanctions & Anti‑Corruption

You must comply with all applicable anti-bribery, export control, and sanctions laws when using the Service. You must not use the Service in any way that is forbidden by these laws, or for any other illegal or restricted purpose.

15. Governing Law & Venue

These Terms follow the governing law and venue designated in the Access Agreement.

16. Order of Precedence

If there is any inconsistency between these Terms and the Access Agreement, the Access Agreement prevails.

17. Updates to these Terms

Pearson may update these Terms, including Annex A (AUP), from time to time. Unless stated otherwise, updates take effect upon posting at the Terms of Use Link. For material changes, where required by the Access Agreement or applicable law, Pearson will provide notice through an appropriate channel (for example, by an in‑product notice or notification to the Access Provider). Your continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

 

 

Annex A — Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) (forms part of the Terms of Use)

Scope

Applies to your use of the Service, which refers to the Pearson product you are seeking to access and in connection with which this AUP has been provided to you, forms part of the Terms of Use and supplements the Terms of Use and the Access Agreement.

Updates

Updates to this Annex/AUP are governed by the process described in the ‘Updates to these Terms’ section above. Unless stated otherwise, updates take effect upon posting at the Terms of Use Link; material changes will be notified as described there.

Do

  • Use the Service lawfully and follow your organisation’s policies.
  • Protect your account. Keep your credentials confidential and enable multi‑factor authentication where available.
  • Be aware that AI outputs may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of context; always apply human judgment and do not treat them as professional advice.

Don’t

  • Use the Service for decisions with legal or similarly significant effects without appropriate human review.
  • Conduct surveillance without required notice or consent.
  • Allow anyone under 18 to use the Service.
  • Redistribute, share, copy, cache, archive, or make Service materials available to unauthorised recipients.
  • Scrape, text/datamine, or use Inputs/Outputs to train, fine-tune, create datasets or otherwise develop, deploy or improve artificial intelligence models or similar technologies, in any manner or for any purpose unless expressly authorised by Pearson; or circumvent, remove alter or obscure technical or usage limits or restrictions, protections or measures, rate limits, or access controls.
  • Attack or undermine the Service (e.g., malware, DDoS, unauthorised access).
  • Post, say, or otherwise contribute unlawful, harmful, defamatory, abusive, indecent, or infringing content—whether spoken, written, or otherwise.
  • Exceed any usage limits notified by Pearson.
  • Share accounts/credentials, let others use your licence, or bypass authentication/security controls (including MFA).
  • Reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, extract source code, modify, or create derivative works from the Service or Pearson materials (except where permitted by law), or remove/obscure/alter proprietary notices or copyright management information, or use Pearson/third‑party names, logos, or trade marks without permission.
  • Use Pearson’s intellectual property, including trademarks, trade dress, designs, logos, trade names, except as expressly provided in these Terms, the AUP, the Access Agreement, or with Pearson’s prior written approval.
  • Use the Service in a way that violates third‑party terms (e.g., Microsoft Teams) or others’ rights.
  • Rely on the Service as a substitute for professional advice (e.g., medical, legal, immigration, financial).

Enforcement

Breaches may result in suspension or termination of access. Report suspected misuse or security incidents promptly to your organisation’s administrator, the Access Provider or Pearson, as applicable.
