Introducing the Student Advisory Council: A New Chapter in Student-Centered Sociology

Elevating Student Voices in Every Page of Our Latest Edition

We are thrilled to announce a groundbreaking addition to the newest edition of our Sociology text: the creation of our very own Student Advisory Council (SAC). This innovative initiative marks a first for our title and reflects our unwavering commitment to putting students at the heart of every chapter.

What is the Student Advisory Council?

New to this edition, the Student Advisory Council is comprised of eight diverse students selected from across the country, each of whom previously used Exploring Sociology in their courses. Recognizing that students are the true experts when it comes to meaningful learning, we invited these council members to share their insights and help shape the direction of the content.

A Collaborative Process: Shaping Content Together

From in-depth chapter reviews to candid advice on updating examples, SAC members played an active role in refining every aspect of the new edition. Their recommendations have helped us bring contemporary issues to the forefront—ensuring our Sociology text remains not only current, but also deeply resonant for today’s learners.

Council members brought their unique perspectives to a range of topics, including:

  • Mental health and student well-being
  • Indigenous family structures and lived experiences
  • The impact of artificial intelligence on society
  • Understanding settler colonialism in a modern context

Hear Directly from Students: Sample Video Reflections

To further connect with our community, SAC members have recorded a series of engaging video reels, sharing their personal reflections and advice for future readers. We invite you to watch and learn from their experiences:

Why the SAC Matters

By inviting students to become true collaborators in the creation of this edition, we have ensured that the content speaks directly to those who matter most—our readers. The SAC’s thoughtful input has resulted in a text that is more inclusive, relevant, and inspiring.

We encourage you to explore these student stories and see how the new edition of our Sociology text redefines what it means to learn, connect, and grow together.
