  • Composite Function

An expression with one trigonometric function nested inside another, solved by evaluating the innermost function first.
  • Unit Circle

A circle with radius 1 centered at the origin, used to determine trigonometric values for standard angles.
  • Right Triangle

A triangle with one 90-degree angle, useful for finding trigonometric ratios when values are not on the unit circle.
  • Inverse Function

A function that reverses the effect of a trigonometric function, with outputs restricted to specific intervals.
  • Interval

The range of angles or values allowed for inverse trigonometric functions, ensuring valid solutions.
  • Quadrant

One of four regions in the coordinate plane, determining the sign of trigonometric values based on angle location.
  • Pythagorean Theorem

A formula relating the sides of a right triangle, used to find missing side lengths for trigonometric calculations.
  • SOHCAHTOA

A mnemonic for remembering sine, cosine, and tangent ratios in right triangles: Sine=Opposite/Hypotenuse, etc.
  • Undefined Value

A result outside the allowable range for a function, such as an inverse sine of a number greater than 1.
  • Argument

The input value or angle for a trigonometric function, which may be positive or negative and affect quadrant placement.
  • Cosine

A trigonometric ratio representing the adjacent side over the hypotenuse in a right triangle or x-coordinate on the unit circle.
  • Sine

A trigonometric ratio representing the opposite side over the hypotenuse in a right triangle or y-coordinate on the unit circle.
  • Tangent

A trigonometric ratio representing the opposite side over the adjacent side in a right triangle or slope on the unit circle.
  • Hypotenuse

The longest side of a right triangle, opposite the right angle, essential for calculating trigonometric ratios.
  • Adjacent Side

The side next to the angle of interest in a right triangle, used in cosine and tangent calculations.
