My Twist on a Tale: run your own in-school writing competition!

Our popular story writing competition is back and this year, we are giving you everything you need to run your very own ‘just-for-fun’ competition within your school.
This year’s theme is ‘Everyday heroes’
We’ve put together a pack containing everything you need to run your competition with learners aged 4 to 19.
Given the extraordinary year our young people have faced, with disruptions to learning and home life, we have chosen Everyday Heroes as the competition theme and we hope it will encourage young people to let their imagination run wild as they think and write about the positive experiences that have influenced them.
Whether it’s a story about someone in their local community, a person making a difference, a family member or friend that inspires them or even a superhero from their imagination, you could encourage your children and young people to get creative and reflect their own personality, location and experiences in their tales. And who says the hero needs to be a human? It could be a story about an animal that comes to save the day!

We’ve put together this competition pack full of inspiring writing activities and lesson ideas for you to run your very own in-school competition and pick your favourite story and winner.
We’ve also created a digital certificate for you to to customise and give to all your learners who take part and one for your winner/s too!
You’ll find helpful guidelines for competition success in the pack including a suggested competition closing date of Friday 27 November 2020. You don’t have to stick to this of course, this is a competition for you to use in school when you want to!
If you do decide to choose your closing date as Friday 27 November 2020, you could send us a copy of your overall winner’s story by Friday 4 December 2020 and we may share our favourites in a future blog post. If you want to do this, email a copy of the story, the winning student’s name, age and your name and school to us at internationalschools@pearson.com. Please make sure the story text is typed into the email rather than attached as a handwritten image.
