Shaping the future of learning: Pearson’s International School Innovator of the Year global award winner, Zabeeda Bibi
by

Learn how Zabeeda Bibi, Pearson’s International School Innovator of the Year global award winner is shaping the future of education through tech, inclusivity and engaging projects.
Innovation in education isn’t just about using the most advanced technology or following the latest trends – it’s about transforming the learning experience in ways that truly put students first. Few educators embody this attitude as fully as Zabeeda Bibi, the 2025 Pearson International School Teacher Awards global Innovator of the Year.
Zabeeda is the founder and deputy director of the Al-Reeyada International School in Alhasa, Saudi Arabia. Before the school opened, there were no International Schools in Al Ahsa, and all expatriate children had to attend Arabic schools or commute three to four hours daily to reach an international school. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Al-Reeyada International School.
More than her titles, Zabeeda is known for her creativity, leadership and unwavering commitment to student success. She has transformed her school into a hub of student-centred learning, interdisciplinary exploration and real-world problem-solving. Her initiatives do more than engage students – they inspire them, help them grow and give them opportunities they might not find elsewhere.
Let’s take a closer look.
Diversity is strength
For Zabeeda, innovation begins with understanding students’ needs, interests and potential. She champions projects that allow young people to take ownership of their education and develop skills for life, not just for school. Her annual exhibitions, inter-school competitions and sustainability-focused innovation programmes are designed to nurture students’ confidence and problem-solving skills alike.
“[It’s about] differentiation, collaboration and providing opportunities for students to engage in meaningful discussions through platforms such as debates, TED Talks, inter-school events and monthly clubs”, Zabeeda says. She explains that by participating in video competitions or presenting projects at exhibitions, students come to think beyond the classroom. They develop their own voice and really see that their ideas matter.
At the heart of Zabeeda’s approach is the belief that diversity is a strength. In Al-Reeyada’s multi-diverse learning environment, she ensures that every student feels included, respected and supported. By making the learning experience student-centred, Zabeeda turns her school into spaces where curiosity thrives and every learner can succeed.
Innovation as a collective journey
Innovation is about big projects and the details of everyday teaching. Zabeeda uses interactive boards, real objects, videos and pictures to make lessons accessible and engaging for all students. She uses methods like Think-Pair-Share and the Frayer Model alongside outdoor activities to make learning that is dynamic, multi-sensory and meaningful.
Zabeeda recognises that every child learns differently, and that it’s essential to create classrooms where they can each engage and thrive. For her, differentiated instruction and group activities allow students to participate fully in their learning and ensure no-one is left behind.
Her focus on innovation goes further than her students, too. Zabeeda leads monthly training sessions for teacher development. Here, she helps her peers explore new strategies, learn from one another and continue enhancing their teaching practice – a clear reflection of her belief that innovation is a personal as well as a collective journey.
Technology with a purpose
Technology naturally plays a central role in Zabeeda’s school. She integrates interactive boards, digital learning platforms and game-based activities across all subjects. She also has designated ‘Technology Days’ where students explore different subjects through hands-on digital activities, enhancing their understanding and engagement with tech.
Still, Zabeeda is conscious that technology should enhance learning, not automate it. “We use presentations, videos, pictures and after-school Zoom sessions to support students [who need extra help]”, she says. The key is to combine digital tools with practical, hands-on learning, so digital tools are balanced with students’ real-life experiences.
Zabeeda’s philosophy positions technology to serve a purpose: to strengthen understanding, foster participation, and make learning even more relevant while keeping students engaged.
Maintaining community connections
Perhaps one of Zabeeda’s most impactful innovations is her monthly podcast series. Launched as part of the school’s 25th anniversary celebration, the podcast connects alumni, current students, parents and teachers. Students participate as hosts and co-hosts, gaining leadership experience. Meanwhile, alumni share their insights, experiences and successes, and keep in the loop of the Al-Reeyada community.
“The podcast became a meaningful way to celebrate our history, achievements and community spirit”, she says. “It helps new parents learn more about the school, gives students a voice and keeps our community connected no matter where they are in the world”.
Beyond the podcast, Zabeeda has also spearheaded project-based and STEM learning programmes, as well as competitions, clubs and inter-school initiatives. These experiences give students opportunities to apply their knowledge in a creative way, and to develop problem-solving skills and confidence in real-world contexts. She always focuses on critical thinking skills to help students navigate the information-rich world they (will) live in.
Looking ahead, Zabeeda plans to continue expanding student-centred learning, inclusiveness and technology integration. She envisions stronger global collaborations, digital assessments and ongoing professional development for teachers. In the meantime, she continuously welcomes feedback from students, parents and alumni, and knows that the greatest innovation is the one that evolves alongside community needs.
Always prioritising people
Zabeeda Bibi’s work is a powerful reminder that innovation in education is about people. She has transformed learning experiences at Al-Reeyada International School, and moreover, she helped establish deeper connections among the community, and instills a sense of wonder among her students.
Zabeeda creates learning environments where curiosity, creativity and critical thinking flourish. Her recognition as Pearson’s Global Innovator of the Year celebrates her unique ideas, but also the profound impact she has had – and will continue to have – in shaping young learners.
