Sandy Zervas

Level Starter

Sandy spent the first half of her professional life as an English Language teacher (RSA Dip. TEFLA) and Director of Studies for language schools before becoming an ELT author. She has written and co-authored a number of books for Pearson including GoGetter, Grammar Time, Wonderland, The Wonderkids, and Today!

She firmly believes that having fun in the classroom is a great motivation for teachers and students alike and she tries to reflect this in her material. 

Catherine Bright

Level Starter

Catherine is an experienced, qualified English teacher and teacher trainer. She has been involved in ELT in Portugal since 1988 and has taught students of all ages, levels and profiles, including business English students. In addition to holding the Cambridge University/RSA DELTA, she is also an approved teacher trainer in Portugal and has worked a lot over the years both with Portuguese state and private sector teachers.

She has also trained on CELTA courses, is an examiner for main suite and YL Cambridge English exams and has a lot of experience in educational management.

Catherine has worked as an author since 2005 and has written a wide variety of materials including various Pearson teachers’ books for the Today! and Discover English series, as well as resource materials, tests, a workbook and an upper primary exam preparer course book for Pearson Central Europe.

Bob Hastings

Levels 1 and 2

Bob has over 35 years’ experience in ELT and teacher training in the UK, France and Spain. A firm believer in the communicative approach to language teaching, Bob, who has an MSc in Applied Linguistics from the University of Edinburgh, has been writing ELT materials since 2001.

He is the author of several course books for Pearson including Success and Wider World

Stuart McKinlay

Levels 1 and 2

Stuart is an English graduate of Manchester University and has 15 years’ experience teaching EFL and ESOL in the UK and abroad, most recently at the Lodz Teacher Training College in Poland.

A Pearson author since 2003 – he is the co-author of four levels of Success (Beginner, Pre-Intermediate, Intermediate and Advanced), two levels of Wider World (Elementary and Pre-Intermediate) and is currently working on Highlights (Pre-Intermediate). 

Carolyn Barraclough

Levels 3 and 4

Carolyn has written a number of Pearson course-books, including Gold Experience, Next Move, Move It! and the BESA award-winning Activate!

A qualified English teacher (PGCE) and teacher trainer, Carolyn taught EFL in Greece and the UK before moving into EFL publishing, working as an educational consultant and editor for over 15 years. Her publishing background has given her the opportunity to work closely with teachers and students from many different countries and incorporate their concerns and values into her material.

Carolyn’s special interest is motivating young teenagers, and she believes the strong video element in Wider World will enhance students’ learning experience.

Suzanne Gaynor

Levels 3 and 4

Suzanne is a former language school owner in Spain and an experienced teacher. Now based in Oxford, she has been writing materials for Pearson since 2005 and has co-written numerous ELT titles including Activate!, Cosmic, Gold Experience and Wider World. Suzanne believes in maintaining a foothold in the classroom and also teaches in Oxford.

She says it is the students who inspire her to write her own materials. More recently, Suzanne has taken on additional roles as a judge on a standardising panel for the Trinity ISE exam and as a member of the Educational Writers Group for the Society of Authors. 

Kathryn Alevizos

Levels 3 and 4

Kathryn taught English in the UK, France and Greece. She has a BA honours degree in French from the University of Liverpool and holds the Cambridge DELTA. She has also been involved in teacher training and was a CELTA trainer at colleges of further education both in Birmingham and Bristol.

She has been an examiner in the UK and has written a wide range of exam material over the last ten years as well as online teaching and learning material.
