About the presenters

Kathryn Booth, Director, Pearson Schools Qualifications, MENAT: Kathryn has been with Pearson for 13 years; at first in the London head office, where she was responsible for developing GCSE and A level science qualifications for UK schools. Since 2018, she has been living in the region and working in the Pearson Dubai office, and has responsibility for Pearson’s qualifications courseware in schools across the Middle East, North Africa, and Turkey.

Mohammad Hasan: Working with Pearson Middle East since 2013 to support schools as Head of Courseware and Educational Advisor. He has worked in the education sector for more than 22 years as a teacher, manager, and educational advisor, Mohammad has managed several educational projects to improve students learning via effective teaching strategies and engaging learning resources.

Amanda McQuaid: The Head of Qualifications looking after Pearson Edexcel and BTEC qualifications and has worked with schools in the UAE, Kuwait, Jordan, Oman, and Bahrain since 2016. Amanda comes from Northern Ireland (UK) and has been with Pearson Edexcel for nearly 7 years supporting and improving learner outcomes across the region.

Adam Jama: The Regional Manager for Pearson’s Edexcel and BTEC qualifications within schools in Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE. He has been with Pearson for 12 years, starting off in our London office before moving to Dubai in 2018. He also has significant experience in vocational qualifications including assessment and quality assurance.

Dr Steffen Sommer, Director General, Misk Schools: Dr Steffen Sommer has over 25 years of experience in senior roles in Europe and the Middle East. He joined Misk Schools in August 2022 from Doha College, having been Principal there since 2015. A fluent speaker of many languages, he has led top international schools in the Netherlands, France and Switzerland and was Head of Languages at Rugby School in England, one of the country’s top independent boarding schools. Born in Germany, Steffen gained his first degree in Language and Linguistics at the University of Leipzig. After military service and teacher training, he left to work in business in France with car maker Peugeot, and studied for a PhD in Birmingham, UK, before finding his vocation in teaching. Dr Sommer is a board member of Outstanding Schools of the Middle East, a co-founder of the international division of HMC, Vice Chair COBIS, and a Fellow of High Performance Learning.

Zoë Neville-Smith, Head of Marketing, PSQ Marketing – Central: Zoë is Head of Marketing for Pearson International Schools and brings 16 years’ experience to the team, which she joined in March this year. Prior to her current role, she headed up marketing communications across Europe for Cambridge International, where she worked for over ten years across a number of marketing assignments. She has also worked in financial services and membership organisations, but was drawn to international education having attended an international school herself as student.
