Hey everyone in this example we need to classify glucose as an atomic molecular or ionic solid. So based on our given categories, we have first atomic solid. We should recall that atomic solids are metallic solids. However, when we look at the formula for glucose C six H 12 06, we see that carbon, hydrogen and oxygen are all non metal atoms. And so we would say that therefore this cannot be an atomic solid. So we would rule that out as a choice. Next we have ionic solid to consider so, ionic solids we want to recall are made up of non metals bonded to metallic atoms or we can say that they're made up of metals plus polly atomic ions and as we stated, carbon, hydrogen oxygen are all nonmetal atoms. We don't have any poly atomic ions in our formula for glucose. So we can say that therefore it's also not an ionic solid. So we would say that thus glucose C6 H 1206 is a molecular solid where all of our nonmetal atoms are bonded to one another. Bye week. Van der Waals forces.
