We are given this improper fraction. 110 divided by 17 improper because the numerator is larger than the denominator and were asked to write it as a mixed number. So how do we do that? I'm going to show you how to do it when we don't have a calculator and then I'll show you what you would do if you do have a calculator. So 110 over 17 is the same thing as 110 divided by 17. So we're asking ourselves how many times to 17 go into 110 and it might help to round these numbers to something a little more familiar that you could do in your head. So I would choose 100 divided by 20. Rounding down a little bit for 110 and up a little bit for 17. And I know in my head that 100 divided by 20 is five. But since I rounded down a little bit for and up a little bit for 17, we could also try six. So we'll test it out and see if six works. Remember we were asking how many times to 17 go into 100 and 10 and we're testing to see if 17 goes into it six times. So we'll test 17 times six. We take six times seven, that's 42 6 times one is six plus four is 100 So 102 is 17 times six which is close to 110 without going over it. We couldn't fit another 17 in there. So we know that our whole number here is going to be a six. Now what's left over? Will we take our 110 that we started with? And we subtract 17 times six. So we subtract 102 and 110 minus 102 is eight. So there are eight parts left over. So it's six and eight, seventeenth's. The denominator remains the same. And basically we just took six seventeen's out of this 110. Alright, so that's how you can do it without a calculator. When you do have a calculator, you type in 110 divided by and you'll probably get an answer something like 6. and it might go on from there. And so now you have your whole number, we know that it's six. But how do we get this decimal into a fraction? Well again what you'll do is you'll take the number in the denominator 17 times the whole number six and that's where you'll get your and again you'll take the numerator, 110 and subtract that product that you got subtract 102, you'll get your remainder here this eight and then keep that as the numerator over the same denominator 17 so you'll get the same answer and it's much the same process. We look at our answer choices and this matches with answer choice B. Well done, we'll catch you on the next one.
