So then we have four different answer choices a through D with different possibilities for names. So rather than read through all of these, let's work through what the name would be and then match it to our answer. So let's think about the rules for naming ethers. First of all ethers come second priority after other functional groups. So we need to look at our molecule and determine are there other functional groups besides the ether? So as we look at structure number one, we see that the only functional group we have here is this ether. We have an oxygen with a chained, a branch chain on one side and an ethyl group on the other side. So we recall that in ether is a functional group where we have an R one and then an oxygen and then an R two. So an oxygen with two functional groups on either side. So that's the case in structure number one. So ether will be our only functional group. And then our naming rule is that we just have the names of both chains separated by a space and then another space and the word ether. So all we have to do is name our R groups here. So we have R one which is this branch chain, it has 1234 carbons and it's bound to the oxygen by a secondary carbon. So carbon with two other carbons on either side of it. So the name we give that chain is sec sec and it should be an italic bey since it has the four carbons. So that's our R one group and then our R two group much easier. So the sec doesn't count, we just look at the B for beetle and the E for ethel, beetle comes first. So our name will be sec and hyphen Beutel, then a space Ethel, then another space and then Ether. So let's look at our answer choices to see which has this correct choices. A and B don't have the sec prefix that would involve, they just say beal. So a beauty chain would be that four carbon chain attached on one of the terminal carbons, one of the primary carbons. So A and B are incorrect as they named the beetle chain incorrectly choice C has sec bel correctly and then Ethel ether. So that is the correct name for number one. And then ch two ch three as we have here. Well, we have two of them. So we need to call it dye at oxy and then we just need to number the carbons they're attached to. So again, we give, you, use the numbers that give the lowest total substituent numbers. So we have one of these groups attached to the end carbon. So we'll call that carbon number one. And then our second branch would be attached to carbon number three. So the end result is we have one, three and then a hyphen. So one comma three die at oxy hexane. So let's look over at choice of C and D and see if they have the correct name in choice. C number two is named as Diethyl Heel diether, but this is not the correct naming format. So as it has the incorrect name for number two, we eliminate choice. C choice D correctly has 13 Dixy hexane. We've eliminated A B and C. So D will be our answer choice. And on a test, I would just pick that and move on. Not even look at structure three. So we're going to be thorough here. So we'll take a look at that third structure. It has an ether group. We see the oxygen on one side, it's bound to a two carbon chain. So an ethyl chain, but on the other side, it has an aromatic ring. So as we mentioned, the aromatic ring is going to be the priority. Next, we'll call it molecule. So we will name this compound after the aromatic ring, not the ether. So we have a benzene ring with a methyl group. We'll recall that we do have a common name for this entire structure. I'll highlight it in blue. So the ring and the methyl group, which is called Toleen. So to you mean is going to be our sort of main name and then we need to name our ether as a substituent. So again, we use that suffix of OXY and we would call it E oxy. So there's only one. So eth oxy tomine, no space and we just need to locate it. Well, in one sense, it's our only substituent. But because the ta you mean includes a methyl group on it, we automatically number the carbon with the methyl group as carbon number one. And that means our oxy group is on carbon number four. But recall when we have a benzene ring that has just two substituents, we have those option of using Ortho meta pera to name the locations of the substituents. So this would be a pera substituent. So letter P. So we'd say P hyphen Foxy Toluene. And indeed, when we look at choice D, we see for number three P oxy toluene. So we've named all of our compounds and we see the correct names for this are listed in choice D for number one sec Bety ethyl ether for number 213, Diy oxy hexane and for number three P oxy Toluene.
