Why choose Pearson Senior Science NSW

Building on the success of the first edition and refined through collaboration with NSW teachers and assessment experts, Pearson Senior Science NSW provides a dependable foundation schools can trust.

Pearson Senior Science NSW follows a clear learning sequence, so teachers always know what comes next and how each lesson aligns to the syllabus. Lessons prioritise understanding before moving into practice and application.

Our approach simplifies complex concepts into manageable, intuitive building blocks, setting learners up for confident, rigorous application.

Students build knowledge and skills before tackling exam‑style questions. Assessment preparation is introduced gradually, helping students develop confidence without unnecessary pressure. Building Exam Skills sections throughout the text provide advice on how to answer a range of question types, with annotations to guide student success in assessments and exams.

Developed with Prime Minister’s Prize-winning educator Matt Dodds and expert NSW teachers, this series provides a trusted, ready-to-use foundation that reduces planning time and empowers confident teaching.

Meet the series consultants

Matt Dodds

Matt is the series consultant for Pearson Biology NSW and Pearson Physics NSW.

He has been teaching now for over 15 years and still very much enjoys the challenges and rewards of teaching. He grew up in the Blue Mountains and loved all three core sciences in high school. Ultimately it was his interest in DNA and genetic engineering that led him to study a double degree of a Bachelor of Science (Biotechnology) and a Bachelor of Education at UNSW in Sydney. He has also completed post-graduate studies in Astronomy and Astrophysics.

He continues to focus on keeping up with progress in science in the media and always reads up on the Nobel Prize recipients every year. He feels that remaining connected to science in the real world is key to promoting science to students.

As well as designing pieces of equipment that are now found in science classrooms across the country, including a new apparatus for conducting a quantitative investigation into the motor effect, he develops and shares methods for biology and physics experiments and assessment tasks.

He has presented at science teacher conferences across the country including CONASTA, STANSW, VIC Physics, CONSTAT and more.
