About the speakers
Dr. Tom Sisk
Dr. Tom Sisk, superintendent of Limestone County School District, has been working in public education for almost 35 years. He has served as a special education teacher, a varsity coach in football, wrestling, and women’s softball, a high school administrator, and central office administrator. In addition to his advanced degrees in education, Dr. Sisk completed the Harvard Institute for Superintendents and District Leaders and is a nationally certified school superintendent — one of less than 300 in the U.S.
Jodie Dean
Jodie Dean, principal of Alabama Connections Academy, is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran with more than 20 years of instructional and administrative experience. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University in elementary education for grades K–8 and in special education for K–12. Additionally, she earned a master’s degree in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University. Dean previously served as principal for New Mexico Connections Academy, Mesa Public Schools, and Gilbert Public Schools. She has also been a teacher at both elementary and junior high levels, as well as an athletic director and assistant principal.

Karen Duquette is director of state and strategic client relations at Pearson. Her expertise includes government affairs, public policy in education and healthcare, legislative analysis, coalition building, grant writing, project management, and budget writing and tracking. She earned a JD from The Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law, and a BA in International Studies and German Studies from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Duquette is fluent in German, conversational in Spanish, and licensed to practice law in North Carolina.
