About the speakers

Susan Barry
Manager of Instructional Design, Pearson
Susan has an MA in Literature from University College Dublin. Prior to working for Pearson, Susan was an instructor at Shawnee Community College teaching English Composition, Argumentation, and a variety of literature classes, as well as Introduction to Philosophy, and Ethics. She was also Division Chair of the Humanities and Social Sciences, and an early adopter teaching online. Susan worked with the other Division Chairs and faculty to develop a fully online Associates Degrees and trained faculty on creating and teaching online courses. She's been with Pearson for 8 years, first as Lead Instructional Designer, designing courses for the University of Southern California, and then as a Manager of Instructional Design. Susan has managed course development for over 20 different programs across 15 different academic partnerships.

Melissa Johnson
Manager of Instructional Design, Pearson
Melissa Johnson is a Manager of Instructional Design for Pearson's Learning Design Solutions team. She is an education advocate whose three favorite words are effective, engaging, and inclusive. Over two decades, Melissa has honed her talent in instructional design and media creation by calling on her knowledge as an online learning design expert, web designer, and content developer. She led a team of 19 instructional designers in creating 34 highly customized training modules for a huge social media platform, she was integral in the creation of transformational learning experiences for the Gender Intelligence Group and Great on the Job, and she was an accessibility pioneer, becoming one of Pearson's first accessibility specialists. In addition, Melissa was named on a patent under consideration for a course content accessibility scanner, and was a key contributor on a past patent regarding the effectiveness of online course content.
These days Melissa oversees eight unique and amazing team members, and with their help, successfully manages the course development of two large partners, spanning five different programs.
