About the speakers

Dr. Warner Bair

Dr. Warner Bair

Warner Bair, professor of Biology at Lone Star College – CyFair (Cypress, TX) holds a BS in General Biology and a PhD in Cancer Biology from the University of Arizona. Bair has taught general biology and microbiology classes in higher education for over ten years, making extensive use of of active learning and technology. His multiple educational awards include the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award from the University of Texas and the League for Innovation in the Community College John and Suanne Roueche Excellence Award. He has authored Interactive Microbiology videos and activities for the Mastering Microbiology website.

Dr. Derek Weber

Dr. Derek Weber

Derek Weber is professor of biology and microbiology at Raritan Community College in Somerville, NJ. He holds a BS in Chemistry from Moravian College and a PhD in Biomolecular Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. A full-time instructor since 2004, his current scholarly work focuses on using instructional technology in a flipped classroom to create a more active and engaged learning community. His work has been recognized with multiple recognitions and awards, including the Award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching, Learning and Technology at the International Teaching and Learning Conference. His previous work in microbiology education includes producing MicroBooster video tutorials to help students review or re-learn basic concepts in biology and chemistry.

Bair and Weber are now authoring digital content for the upcoming Microbiology: An introduction, 13th Edition.
