Information for teachers about BTEC and career choices

How can you ensure you are preparing your students for the world of work?

How to help

Good careers education can help students understand that a career is not about a single destination. Careers guidance can also help students understand their skills, motivations, values and interests and how to explore these in relation to the choices they may make.

According to the Good Careers Guidance Report, these are the 8 benchmarks that schools can use as a framework for improving their careers provision:

1. A stable careers programme

2. Learning from career and labour market information

3. Addressing the needs of each pupil

4. Linking curriculum learning to careers

5. Encounters with employers and employees

6. Experiences of workplaces

7. Encounters with further and higher education

8. Personal guidance.
