Results Reports via EOL

To help support centre administration of BTEC qualification results, MIS-compatible embargoed results data was uploaded to Edexcel Online mailbox on 4 August 2021, which we hope enabled administrative checks and activities to take place for those centres that asked for this extra time.

Today, embargoed Level 3 BTEC Nationals results have been issued. Your EOL downloadable reports (i.e. Broadsheets and Statements of Results) will be pre-populated to your EOL mailbox (for those with the 'Results' profile). Results have been issued in this way because of the alternative arrangements this year, and we hope will not cause any inconvenience to you. For those expecting to receive an EDI results file, these will be in your A2C inbox as normal.

On 11 August, the Level 2 Technicals, Level 1/2 Firsts and Tech Awards embargoed results will be issued. From this date all EOL downloadable reports (including those for Level 3 qualifications) will be available via the normal reports functionality on Edexcel Online. For those expecting to receive an EDI results file, these will be found in your A2C inbox.

UCAS Track

Relevant results data has been shared with UCAS, and will be available on ‘UCAS Track’ at the same dates and times listed above.

Now results have been issued for certificating learners, please do not make any unit–level internal grade claims or amendments on Edexcel Online for these learners.

There will be no unit level results issued this year for certificating learners, so this information is not required. We will update you in the next few weeks regarding the input of grades for units flagged as ‘Z’ for learners who will complete their BTEC next academic year, and the relevant actions for those learners who will ‘top-up’ after receiving their grades this week. 

Please note: You may notice on your EOL candidate view that ‘Full Award Claims’ for completing learners will appear, these claims have been initiated by us to ensure you can receive qualification results, and you do not need to take any action.

We are very aware that your learners may need extra support during this time, and are here to help them. We would be very grateful if you could ensure that they are aware of where to find information and how to contact us should they need to.

There are some areas where the BTEC appeals process will differ from the arrangements detailed in the JCQ document. To make things as easy to understand as possible, we’ve put together Appeals guidance for BTEC students (PDF | 681.83 KB) which details the BTEC appeals process, the timelines for the process, and also how to contact us should they have any questions.

Please also advise them that they can follow @BTECStudents, check our student web page or FAQs, both of which are regularly updated and that, if they have any specific questions for us, they can contact us (where live chat is also available), or phone us on 0345 618 0440. Phone lines will open at 8:30am on Results Days. 

Due to the processes put in place this year, our hope is that both teachers and students will be aware of the evidence used to inform their result, and are content with their outcome. However, an Appeals process is available for those seeking a review.

Where BTEC results for summer 2021 are issued using Qualification level Teacher Assessed Grades, the grounds for appeal that are detailed in the JCQ A Guide to Appeals Processes Summer 2021, will apply. To supplement the JCQ Guide, our BTEC Appeals Summer 2021 guidance provides a summary of the appeals process for summer 2021 and also provides information on where the BTEC appeals process will differ from the arrangements detailed in the JCQ document.

Following a Stage One Centre Review, Stage Two of appeals submitted on the grounds of academic judgement (selection of evidence and/or grade) will be undertaken by a Pearson-appointed Independent Reviewer.

Due to the size of some BTEC qualifications, where a learner wishes the centre to submit an academic judgement appeal to the awarding organisation on their behalf, the centre is not required to upload all of the evidence used in making its academic judgement.

It is anticipated that the learner will have drawn attention to and highlighted aspects within their work, which they believe are indicative and supportive of a higher Q-TAG than has been awarded by the centre. These pieces of evidence should be included in the evidence that is provided to us for the appeal.

For each learner, up to eight pieces of evidence should be submitted for review by the Independent Reviewer as part of the Appeals process. This work should reflect the breadth of the programme but also must include any learner-identified pieces which form the basis of the appeal.

Therefore, any academic judgement appeal submission for any individual learner should include the following:

1. Original centre rationale for Q-TAG including individual learner evidence record
2. Appeal documentation
3. Up to 8 pieces of learner evidence.

To best support the independent review, please ensure that file labelling is as clear as possible and helps to identify which pieces of evidence correspond to those referenced within the documentation.

On Wednesday July 14 the DfE released their response to the second stage of the Review of Post-16 qualifications at level 3.

No changes are being made to technical qualifications until the 2023/24 academic year at the earliest, and no changes are being made to academic qualifications, including Applied General qualifications, until the 2024/25 academic year at the earliest.

You may be aware that on Thursday 29 July, twelve organisations that represent and support staff and students in schools, colleges and universities wrote to Education Secretary Gavin Williamson, urging him to reconsider restricting students’ choice of qualifications at the age of 16.

The #ProtectStudentChoice campaign focuses on the Department for Education’s current review of post-16 qualifications at Level 3, which puts government funding at risk for many applied general qualifications such as BTECs. The letter warns that “many young people will be adversely affected by this proposal, but disadvantaged students have the most to lose”.
