Welcome back to the monthly Vocational Qualifications bulletin, and the first edition of 2023. I hope you had a restful break in December and are looking forward to this year, it’s great to be working with you.

As we head into the January examination series for BTEC external assessment, I’d like to remind you that there are no adaptations permitted to any assessment this year. This means you should teach and assess BTEC qualifications as normal, which includes learners sitting external assessments, and fully assessing all internally assessed units.

We are aware and alert to the industrial action across the UK, and the impact this can have on your day-to-day activities, including the running of external assessments. Please continue to monitor travel disruption and check you have contingency plans which focus on ensuring that learners can sit their assessments. You can find additional information on contingency planning on the JCQ website. On-demand assessments should be rescheduled if impacted.

We have been in touch with Examinations Officers and Quality Nominees at all BTEC centres to confirm that the BTEC learner completion dates we hold in our systems accurately reflect when learners are expecting to complete their assessments. Please continue to assist us to ensure that your expectations on qualification results release is met, by maintaining learner data in our systems.

Best regards,

Jo Fowler
