Sharon Hague, Senior Vice President for Schools at Pearson, has been placed at number 21 in the OUTstanding 50 Ally Executives list, presented by the FT. The list acknowledges the contribution of 50 senior executives globally who are outspoken and unwavering in their support for LGBT+ people in the workplace.

Sharon was recognised in the list for actively championing LGBT inclusivity within the senior leadership team. From adding the issue onto the agenda of 250 senior leaders in the UK, to setting out a vision for an inclusive workplace culture. She launched a campaign for colleagues to wear ‘rainbow’ and ‘trans pride’ lanyards to show that they stand together in the fight for LGBT+ equality.

Additionally she set up internal work streams to push the needle on LGBT inclusion, and signed off on Pearson joining Proud Employers, meaning job opportunities at Pearson are promoted to the LGBT community. Externally, Sharon is the Executive Sponsor for the Stonewall ‘Creating an Inclusive Curriculum’ Guide, and is also overseeing a review into how gender data is collected from schools to make this truly representative for all.

Rod Bristow, President of Pearson in the UK, said:

“Diversity and inclusion are more important than ever to Pearson, and I am incredibly proud that Sharon has received this level of recognition for her impressive work to champion LGBT+ inclusivity.”

Suki Sandhu, Founder & CEO of INvolve, said:

“Our sixth OUTstanding list is our most international and diverse ever. It features executives representing 21 countries around the world – from Ghana to Germany and from India to Israel. We’re so proud to see so many senior and future leaders recognised as role models for their work driving cultural change and creating environments where everyone can succeed. Everyone – regardless of gender, sexuality or ethnicity - benefits from a level playing field where people feel able to bring their whole selves to work.”
