The impact in numbers

Building aspirations through learning

54% of primary school children believe they can be whatever they want to be. 17% say they can only be what they’re “good enough” to be.

Pearson’s ongoing research in UK schools has found primary pupils are looking ahead to imagine what their futures look like. By focusing on the core issues and opportunities now, we can strengthen their outlook for tomorrow, whatever their individual background, abilities or needs.

  • 1 in 20 primary children say their school does not support them to achieve what they want for their future.
  • 23% of primary school teachers believe the education system helps children reach their full potential.

Supporting pupils with their aspirations

Primary teachers say the top four groups of children ineffectively supported in their aspirations and achievements in the current education system are:

  • SEND (86%)
  • Disadvantaged pupils (69%)
  • Gifted and talented (38%)
  • Black, Asian and minority ethnic groups (27%)

Helping children to engage with reading

In this blog, Amy Lewis, Head of Coram Beanstalk, discusses the importance of reading, and how you can use Pearson's Primary Interactive Library to enhance a child's reading experience.
