Promoting student engagement in class
One instructor at Monash University used MyLab™ Math with Learning Catalytics in her Business Statistics course to reduce administrative burden and create a more enjoyable learning experience for students.
MyLab brings real-world examples to business statistics, and provides several tools to help monitor engagement and track the time students spend on learning tools. Through Learning Catalytics — an interactive student response tool that uses their web-enabled devices — lecture attendance and learning progress can be monitored. As student engagement improved, the proportion of students who failed and the amount by which they failed decreased.
“When students get less than 10–15% for the entire unit, that is a disengaged student. That's not someone who's having trouble. That's someone who's just not there. The proportion of those students is getting smaller and smaller. So for me, that's a win, that’s a success.”

Helping students master complex concepts and monitoring progress
Monash University has been using Mastering™ Anatomy & Physiology (A&P) for over eight years as an integral part of teaching and learning its Foundational Anatomy & Physiology course. Because it is a gateway course students must pass to succeed in many health careers, this content helps students learn complex concepts from multimedia tools that best suit them, offering various activities to put their learning into practice. Two educators agreed that Mastering A&P helps them to monitor students’ learning progression, adjust their teaching if necessary, and improve student engagement.
“Mastering A&P gives them (students) a variety of ways to learn because some of them need videos, some of them like testing themselves, they enjoy labelling diagrams… They like using Mastering A&P. We always get good feedback about it.”

Improving student engagement and results
Revel™ for Psychology, 1st edition provides an interactive learning experience that incorporates multimedia content, opportunities to practice, and immediate feedback — anytime, anywhere, on any device.
To explore the potential relationship between the use of Revel and improvements in student experience, engagement, completion, and achievement, Pearson conducted a study with 316 students taking Introduction to Psychology at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
Results suggest that students who obtained higher quiz scores in Revel tended to do better on course exams, and students who spent more time reading in Revel, and answered more questions correctly on the first attempt, tended to do better on exams.

92%
of students said Revel was a more efficient way to study compared to other books or products

84%
of students said they spent more time using Revel than other books or products

96%
of students passed the course
