About our author

Gail is an RN; her clinical background is in Acute and Intensive Care, in both Cardiac and Emergency settings. Her initial training was hospital-based at Los Angeles County Hospital (3,000 beds). She went on to earn a B.S. in Health Care Administration (UCSD) and M.S. in Professional Education (USC). She also has graduate training in Business Administration (UC Irvine) and Public Health Administration (UCLA).

She was a Coronary Ambulance nurse and was one of the first 12 nurses in the country to be certified as a Mobile Intensive Care Nurse. She taught paramedics in LA County for 5 years and established a second training center at LAC/USC Medical Center. She also established the paramedic program and training center for San Diego County. She was an active participant in the federal initiative to develop EMS systems and spread them “wall to wall” across the US.

Gail considers herself first and foremost an educator; her talent is communicating complex medical material in a format that is understandable by a wide range of learners. She has taught in classrooms, clinical settings, and in the field. She also conducted and taught in national seminars for all levels of providers. She has written a number of clinical textbooks, including the first paramedic textbook in the country.
