NCCER’s three-part Masonry Trainee Guide covers masonry tools and equipment, specifications, repair, restoration and reinforcement. Developed with Industry, the training builds hands-on skills for both residential and commercial masonry projects. It complies with federal standards for apprenticeship programs.
The 5th Edition of Level 2, when joined with Level 1, lets trainees satisfy NCCER’s Core requirement, as Level 1 now incorporates key content from the Core curriculum. Level 2 also has a new module, Design Documents, plus new content on reinforced masonry and on the impact of climate conditions on masonry.

New and updated features of this title
A new way to meet NCCER’s Core requirement
- NEW: Trainees who complete Masonry Levels 1 and 2 can now meet their Core requirement, as Level 1 now includes key content from the Core curriculum. This includes the Core modules Basic Communication Skills (00107) and Basic Employability Skills (00108).
- NEW: A new Level 1 module, Materials Handling (28108), builds on the Core module Introduction to Materials Handling (00109). It describes proper ways of working with standard masonry materials.
- NEW: Module 28202, Residential Masonry, previously in Level 2, was moved to Level 1. Together, Levels 1 and 2 form a comprehensive introduction to commercial and residential masonry.
Modular updates
- NEW: Module 28208, Design Documents, replaces and expands on the previous Level 2 module 28201, Residential Plans and Drawing Interpretation.
- EXPANDED: New material on reinforced masonry and on the impact of climate conditions on masonry now appear, respectively, in the modules Reinforced Masonry (28203) and Effects of Climate on Masonry (28206).
- UPDATED: Updated art throughout complements text descriptions and details to help trainees better absorb the information.
