The K-9 Touch
Maria Lutz, student, SUNY Oswego | August 19, 2022 in Pearson Students
On August 26th, social media is flooded with pictures of canines of all shapes and sizes for National Dog Day. If you're anything like me, a single dog's presence can make you smile even on the lowest of days. Dogs can offer a distinct kind of companionship and emotional support that even humans can’t mimic! Whether they're bouncing around just because they're happy to see you or licking the tears off your face because they can see you've had a rough day, your dog will always be there for you.

College students who are missing their own furry friends back home can find other ways to celebrate National Dog Day. So... in addition to posting a picture of our furry friends, what else can we do to celebrate dogs around the world?
1. Volunteer At Your Local Animal Shelter
It’s always great to give back to the community and on National Dog Day, it’s especially great to help all the animals that are patiently waiting for loving families to come and adopt them! By volunteering at an animal shelter, you can make a huge impact on a dog’s life by giving them the love and affection they need and deserve. Even more, giving these animals exposure to socialization with loving humans, may increase their chances of getting adopte!
2. Plan A Special Day for The Dogs in Your Life
There are plenty of ways in which you can make your dog (s) feel extra special on August 26th! Some examples can be a dog playdate, taking them to a dog park, and even baking them a special (dog-friendly) treat. The possibilities are endless!
3. Adopt A Dog
If you’re currently looking to add a furry friend to your family… what better day to do it other than on National Dog Day! Or think about helping out a local rescue organization by fostering a dog. While they may be a handful at times, the love that these fur balls can provide is unmatched.
As a proud owner of two dogs, I can say with FULL confidence that I love these dogs like family, and I would not trade them for the world!
