Most titles that are either primary or secondary specific are more traditional textbooks. The Brilliant Teacher series has a real advantage here being two of very few teaching books of this nature that focus on primary or secondary.
About the Authors
David Torn has over 14 years experience as a secondary school teacher. In that time he has been a very successful classroom practitioner and led a variety of high performance teams including a Year Team, History Department and NQT and PGCE Mentors. At present he is an Advanced Skills Teacher and the Professional Tutor at St Edwards School in Havering.
He started his career at St Edwards in 1996 where after three years in the classroom he was appointed Head of Year 7. In 2005 Ofsted described his leadership as Inspirational.
In 2007 David was awarded a PLATO by the Teaching Awards Trust for the London Teacher of the Year. In the same year he won the inaugural GTC Award for excellence in Professional Development. David is a regular columnist for Sec Ed Magazine and has worked with Teachers TV on advising NQTs on how to approach their initial lessons.
Peter Bennett was born and brought up in South London. Since finishing his PGCE he has been working in secondary schools for more than 27 years during which time he has taught nine different subjects and variously been school librarian, a pastoral leader, Head of English, Gifted &Talented Co-ordinator and Assessment Co-ordinator. Currently he works as Assistant Headteacher at St Edwards School in Romford.
